China used to be Vietnam's top source of visitors before the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2024, China returned to Vietnam’s largest source of tourists. Besides, Chinese tourists are also famous for their "spending ability".

China tourists to Vietnam reached 357,000 arrivals, surpassing South Korea (351,000 arrivals) to become Vietnam's largest source of tourists in May, followed by Taiwan, the U.S, and Japan.

"I used to go to Da Nang city. This place left a lot of impressions. This time, I continue to discover new tourist destinations and several exciting events”, said Ms. Chang Hsiao Ju, a Chinese tourist.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Da Nang welcomed more than 163,000 Chinese visitors, accounting for nearly 11% of the total international visitors to the city. The Da Nang Department of Tourism is planning to promote tourism in this billion-person market.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Department, said, the city will actively resume flight routes to China. In the third quarter of this year, Da Nang will have a tourism promotion programme in the Guangzhou market. Da Nang will also promote a connecting ship route between the city and China.

Vietnam and China’s tourism companies and agencies are cooperating to promote and develop several tour products to stimulate tourism demand between the two countries, such as opening a direct flight connecting Hainan province (China) and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi City. It will create favourable conditions for tourists from Hainan to Vietnam and vice versa.

According to Ms. Pham My Trang - Head of Phuong Nam Travel Tourism Company, Vietnam is wonderful, with very beautiful beaches, and rich in culture and history, which helps Chinese tourists return to Vietnam in large numbers after the pandemic.

It is hoped that the return of tourists from China will significantly contribute to Vietnam’s tourism goal of attracting about 18 million foreign visitors in 2024.
