Attaching an identification chip and naming a baby pangolin
(QNO) - A naming and identification ceremony for the newly-born Javan pangolin at the Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An Animal Conservation Park (VinWonders Nam Hoi An, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) was organized on May 30.
This Javan pangolin was born at the VinWonders Nam Hoi An animal conservation facility on May 13 and was named Sam Sam, which means resilience and adaptability. Hopefully, the Javan pangolin will survive well if released into the natural environment.
On this occasion, Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An also attached an identification chip to the baby pangolin. It will help scientists and conservationists monitor the health, behavior, and migration of each individual.
It is also significant for conserving, studying, and gaining a deeper understanding of animals by recording specific data about growth, development, and changes in animal populations over time.
Attaching identification to rare animals also helps control and prevent illegal trading and hunting, creating a strict management system to ensure rare animals are protected according to the law.
The successful rescue and reproductive support of Javan pangolins in a rescue center at Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An not only contributes to pangolin conservation but also raises public awareness about protecting rare animals, especially when Quang Nam hosts the National Biodiversity Restoration Year 2024.
