Spreading the green trend

Green tourism is a trend that has gradually become popular in Vietnam in recent years.

A set of evaluation criteria for the Sustainable Tourism Label of Blue Lotus was announced in Vietnam in 2012. One year later, a set of Green Tourism Labels was issued.

In 2020, the Vietnamese Government promulgated a strategy for developing Vietnam tourism until 2030, defining inclusive tourism development on the foundation of green growth.

Using green technologies in the tourism industry in Quang Nam province plays an important role in increasing business revenue and minimizing negative impacts on the environment and local communities, thereby creating an attractive and sustainable tourism environment.

A pilot project on reducing plastic waste in the Vietnamese tourism sector has been carried out in the two provinces of Ninh Binh and Quang Nam from June 2023 to 2024.

According to Chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association Phan Xuan Thanh, the model of green tourism has been effectively implemented by travel businesses in Hoi An via the use of renewable energy, water and waste management, information technology and smart travel experiences, green traffic and transportation, community collaboration and green tourism education, green tourism certification, and promotion of new tourism models.

At present, tourists are not simply those who want to explore the beauty of a tourist destination but are also deeply aware of their tourism impact on the environment. So, they prioritize choosing environmentally responsible travel experiences and supporting tourism businesses to protect the environment.

In addition, more and more tourists seek experiences close to nature and local culture instead of energy-consuming tourism activities now.
