A Hoianian artisan and Vietnam bamboo’s emigration
(QNO) - Vo Tan Tan, an artisan in Hoi An (Quang Nam), has been making unique, environment-friendly products of bamboo, coconut, and nipa palm leaves, contributing to environmental protection, promoting Vietnamese bamboo trees around the world, and putting this traditional craft on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Vo Tan Tan was born and grew up in a family with a rich tradition of handicraft in Cam Thanh commune.
When he was young, Tan made a lot of household items of bamboo, coconut, and nipa palm leaves. He, step by step, fell in love with bamboo and handicrafts.
Then, Tan has managed to find solutions to the disadvantages of bamboo in order to make more sophisticated products with a diversity in style and design.
So, his products are both highly applicable in modern life and capable of competing with other handicrafts on the market.
Vo Tan Tan is the owner of the Taboo Bamboo Workshop. It is a favourite address for visitors to Hoi An, providing beautiful, sophisticated bamboo handicrafts.
Going to Cam Thanh village, visitors cannot help being interested and fascinated by the handicrafts made of and from natural materials there.
Over the years, Hoi An has continuously invested in the restoration of craft villages for green and eco-tourism development.
Hoi An is focusing on building an ecological city through environmental protection. Tan and other artisans are contributing to promoting the environment-friendly images of Vietnam in general and Hoi An in particular to the public at home and abroad.
At the same time, it can be said that Tan’s Taboo Bamboo Workshop is a cultural space rich in local identities.
