The workshop on 10 years of the UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
(QNO) - Delegates and experts of 17 countries attended the international scientific workshop on "10 years of the UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage – the lessons and future directions" organized by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in collaboration with Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO on June 23th in Hoi An City(Quang Nam province).

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of MCST Ho Anh Tuan emphasized: "Beside the experiences of national policy and strategy, many specific activities to implement the UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, we are looking forward to the experts’ and delegates’ specific and innovative solution adapting to the global changes of international intangible cultural heritage protection and promotion".
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Quoc Binh (Vietnam Council of National Cultural Heritage), the UNESCO’s Convention of 2003 provided the new viewpoints and awareness of cultural heritage protection against global impacts and risks. This Convention has directly effected in Vietnam, contributing to change the awareness and action of the Vietnam heritage value protection and promotion.
Prof. Dr Yim Dawnhee (Dongguk University) from Korea said, in accordance with the UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Korea is beginning to inventory in the large scale of the Korean intangible cultural heritages because most of them consisting of the cultural assets which were registered in the past are in danger of disappearance. In addition to these lists, authority is beginning to set up a complete list of intangible cultural heritages including the cultural assets that are not in risk of disappearance.
This workshop is a chance for the world cultural heritage researchers to review the itinerary of 10 years of carrying out this Convention, continue to promote what they have done in order to overcome the shortcomings in the near future.
