456 million USD for upgrading and enlarging Chu Lai International Airport
(QNO) - The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has officially announced two phases of investment to upgrade the Chu Lai International Airport in 10-year period (from 2015-2025), with the total capital investment of 546.1 million USD.
It’s one of four key projects of CAAV for construction and upgrading four international airports: Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa province), Long Thanh (Dong Nai), Chu Lai (Quang Nam) and Quang Ninh, with total investment capital of 8.1 billion USD (nearly 170,000 billion VND).
Accordingly, the Chu Lai International Airport will be a regional passenger terminal and air cargo transport hub in 2025. In the phase 1 (to 2015, total capital investment is 4,000 billion VND), the two present 3.048m parallel runways (taking off and landing) will be extended to 4,000m long and 50m wide; a passenger terminal capable of handling 2.3 million passengers per year and a cargo terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million metric tons per year will be built.
In phase 2 (to 2025), with the total capital investment of nearly 7,500 billion VND), a new runway to receive A380, A380-800, B777- 300, A321 airplanes, 46 parking lots, two transit stations, a new signal light system and control station will be built or upgraded. The airport will be able to handle 4.1 million passengers per year and become an air cargo transport hub with 5 million metric tons of cargo per year.
“Due to the investment capital is too much, these projects will will call investment in the PPP (Puplic – Private Partnership) form,” said M r Le Manh Hung, Director General of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam ( ACV).
