- Fukouka city, where the Asian Townscape awarding ceremony held.

The purpose is to honour cities, regions, projects…throughout Asia that have played a significant role as models in landscape construction.  The theme of this year’s award is “Townscapes - a Source of People's Pride”  and the criteria for the award are: a harmonious co-existence with the regional environment; safety, convenience and sustainability; respect for local and regional culture and history; high artistic quality; contributions to local development; and the capability to become a model for other cities.

The ATA was established in 2010 by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Settlements Committee, the Asian Landscape Design Organisation, and the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Centre.

With this award, once again, Hoi An city is highly appreciated by international community via its great efforts in building an eco-environmentally, friendly and comfortable city as well as its contribution to the common development of Quang Nam province and Central regional localities. It is also a good opportunity for Hoi (Hội) An continue to be “an attractive destination of international tourists”.
