The program of developing Quang Nam's urban areas

(QNO) - Quang Nam People’s Committee has officially adopted the Quang Nam’s Urban Area Development Program by 2020 and the vision by 2030 with over 13,000 billion VND.

According to Quang Nam Department of Construction, the provincial urbanization rate is 19.2% (the data of 2013), still low, lower than the national average of 32.19% and lower than the Central key economic region of 36.94%. The level of urbanization in the province is 1.62% (2013), lower than the national average of 3.26%, and lower than the Central key economic zone of 3.1%. Quang Nam has 15 cities and towns: two grade-3 cities (Tam Ky and Hoi An), one grade-4 town (Dien Ban) and 12 grade-5 towns including the district centers.

Besides, the cities or towns that are dynamics of the development in regions or sub-regions (inter-districts) have not really promoted properly compared with their functions and roles. Some potential areas for urban development have still not been completed to be new urban.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phu, Director of Quang Nam Department of Construction, on the basis of approved zone construction plan, the provincial urban development program will exploit the potentials and advantages to continue building the urban system in the province, plannedly manage and develop the urban network, concretize the guidelines and policies related to the investment management and urban development.

By 2020, the  aims are to have  6 upgraded towns, 5 newly – formed towns (3 district centers and 2 communal centers). The provincial system consists of 20 cities and towns, including: 1 grade-2 city (Tam Ky), 2 grade-3 cities (Hoi An and Nui Thanh), 6 grade-4 towns (Dien Ban, Ai Nghia, Nam Phuoc, Ha Lam, Thanh My, Kham Duc), 11 grade-5 towns (P'rao, Dong Phu, Tan An, Phu Thinh, Tien Ky, Tra My, Trung Phuoc, Tak Po, To Vieng, Huong An, Viet An).

By 2020, the size of the urban land will be (is) 911.36 km2; 646,340 of 1,552,000 will be urban population; the rate of urbanization will be 41.65% .

The total capital for urban development program by (to) 2020 is nearly 13,370 billion VND: 7,982 billion VND from the Government, nearly 2,725 billion VND from the provincial and district budget, over 2,660 billion VND from enterprises.
