Over 79 billion VND for cultural heritages preservation in Quang Nam
(QNO) - A seminar on international cooperation promotion of cultural preservation and tourism development was held on 24th September in Ha Noi by the Quang Nam’s provincial People’s Committee (PPC), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO.
At the seminar, many domestic and international delegates mentioned many experiences and ideas of preserving, bringing into play the heritages and developing tourism sustainably.
According to Mr Nguyen Chin, Vice chairman of Quang Nam PPC, at present, Quang Nam has two World cultural heritages which were recognized by UNESCO: My Son Sanctuary and Hoi An Ancient Town. Besides, Cham Island world Biosphere Reserve of Quang Nam is attracting many domestic and foreign tourists. In the past years, Quang Nam‘s people and authorities have overcome many difficulties to preserve and promote the cultural heritages with the supports from many international organizations.
From 1997 to 2014, Quang Nam received a grant of more than 79 billion VND from international organisations for preserving and promoting heritage values. 75 billion VND of the total was granted to My Son Sanctuary by UNESCO, JICA (Japan), Lerici Foundation (Italy), America Exress (USA).
From 2009-2014, Quang Nam also received many supporting projects of sustainable tourism development. These projects have been helping the residents in rural and mountainous areas to develop their life as well as helped local authorities to build strategies for community-based tourism development, trade-mark promotion and fine-art craft products development… Most of the projects have attracted many local people and communities to participate.
Thanks to these projects, the local power resources such as natural resources, local cultural values have been used, preserved and promoted…The number of tourists visited Quang Nam province in fifteen years (1999-2014) increased 10 times, from over 300.000 arrivals in 1999 to approximately 3.7 million in 2014. Quang Nam was also awarded many international tourism and environmental protection prizes.
At the seminar, the Quang Nam PPC introduced some projects on preserving and promoting cultural values and sustainably developing tourism in the coming years: project of supporting sea and islands tourism promotion in three localities Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue; projects of supporting tourists, displaying, introducing and promoting local traditional fine-art crafts; sustainable tourism development in the Cham Island Biosphere Reserve…
