Co Tu ethnic community lives in Pa Rong hamlet, Ta Bhing commune, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province. Their traditional customs and daily activities such as hunting and farming are rather strange to modern lives. Therefore, Co Tu village becomes very attractive to tourists.

The project on Co Tu community-based tourism started at Ta Bhing commune in 2012 under the support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project was done by the Foundation for International Development/Relief (FIDR) with the aim of discovering, preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values of the Co Tu ethnic group in Quang Nam province. In 2016, the project on rural development in Nam Giang district was launched, focusing on exploiting and developing the local tourism products. These projects stimulated Co Tu people’s interest in their cultural features, in the preservation and introduction of their cultural identity.

When the number of visitors to Ta Bhing increases, the Co Tu ethnics try to make their village cleaner and more beautiful. A lot of the souvenirs have also been made from the local products, helping improve the local income. On average, there are about 700-800 visitors to Ta Bhing per year. They are mainly from Japan and France.

More importantly, the Co Tu traditional cultural features have been restored. More and more young people learn how to make and play traditional musical instruments, how to dance Tan-tung Ya-ya, how to play gongs, how to cook their traditional dishes. Their traditional festivals and rituals have also been recalled.

Visitors and vouchers at Ta Bhing community-based tourism village

There are 7 members in the Ta Bhing tourism cooperative. Each member is a village, responsible for the voice-over, cuisine, brocade weaving, and traditional art performance. Visitors to Ta Bhing can enjoy their travel with the Co Tu unique traditional cultural features. It may be an experience that they will never forget.

Ta Bhing is one of Quang Nam tourism destinations under the tours of cultural heritages, sea tourism, ecotourism, community-based tourism. At present, visitors to Ta Bhing can only buy the one-day tour. There is no accommodation service here, which helps remain the Co Tu habits of activities, their lives and their identity.
