The model of Hoi An

Visiting Hoi An, domestic and foreign tourists can’t help taking a tour to the Bay Mau nipa forest, which is considered as a miniature Western region of Vietnam.

The Bay Mau nipa forest is an original system of salt-marshes covering an area of over 100ha. Considered as a green lung of Hoi An city, the Bay Mau nipa forest makes the air in the city fresh and cool. The forest is also a belt protecting the city from strong wind, waves and sea-level rise. Besides, the nipa provides the Cam Thanh locals with leafs and trunks to build their houses. Then the model of ecotourism was born and has grown up here. So, it can be said that the nipa forest becomes an economic resource of the locals in Cam Thanh village.

Taking a sightseeing tour in the Bay Mau nipa forest, visitors can enjoy some folk songs of Quang Nam, witness or try fishing and casting a net, and delight in coracle performances. In this place, there is a tour of planting the nipa for a green atmosphere in which visitors are also very interested. In addition, visitors to Cam Thanh are attracted to the simple local dishes such as banh dap (a dish of steamed and baked rice papers), mussels fried without water, steamed oysters, peperomia pellucida, and banana blossoms.
Therefore, the number of visitors to Cam Thanh is more and more increasing.

Priority to developing green tourism products

Ecotourism is a trend in tourism development in Quang Nam. It can make use of the local natural sceneries to better the local lives, contributing to restoring and preserving traditional craft villages, helping raise the locals’ awareness of protecting environment and other natural resources.

The project of economic development based on agriculture, farming and ecotourism in the midland of Quang Nam which has recently been approved by the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee is an example. It is implemented in Loc Yen ancient village, Tien Phuoc district. Another ecotourism project – Tra Nhieu Xanh has also been ratified. Covering an area of 25ha in Duy Vinh commune, Duy Xuyen district, the project received VND 90 billion of investment. It is a complex of natural and experiencing tours, restaurants, resorts and accommodations, contributing to the diversity of local tourism products.

The 2017 statistics showed 6 million visitors to Quang Nam, up over 85%. Ecotourism and agritourism were chosen more frequently than the others. However, the development of Quang Nam tourism has not been appropriate for the provincial potential. So, it is necessary to give this sector a lot of support of investment capital, tourism management, scenic embellishment, cultural and environmental protection for the provincial sustainable tourism development.
