Infrastructure investment

Nam Tra My district’s advantages in tourism development are the area of Ngoc Linh ginseng with national brand, pristine nature with primitive forests, old-growth cinnamon forests, and mild climate year-round. The attraction of Nam Tra My tourism also lies in the regional cultural identity, culture of Xe Dang and Ca Dong people, culture of gongs and traditional festivals.

Recognizing the local potential of tourism, Nam Tra My district (Quang Nam province) has planned an over 50-ha area of ginseng tourism in seven communes (including Tra Linh, Tra Cang, Tra Nam, Tra Van, Tra Vinh, Tra Don and Tra Mai). It is located at the junction between Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Kon Tum. The infrastructure in this area includes the ways to Tra Linh and Tuc Ngo ginseng areas, Ngoc Linh ginseng exhibition house, and reception halls. However, the facilities and infrastructure of Nam Tra My ginseng area have not met visitors’ demands, which makes it difficult to develop tourism in the area of ginseng.

Identity creation for tourism

Tourism development in the ginseng area can help to preserve and promote the local cultural values. Therefore, besides the project on tourism development in the period of 2015-2020, orientation to 2030, there are some projects on conservation and development of craft villages in two ethnic minorities of Xe Dang and Ca Dong, on preservation and promotion of cultural values of ethnic minorities in Nam Tra My in association with tourism development in the period 2015-2020. Some others are the ones on construction of cultural villages of the Ca Dong and Xe Dang ethnic minorities, and on study to restore traditional festivals of ethnic people. Another project is building and embellishing the historic site Nuoc La. In addition, each commune will be funded to build a traditional house. Each hamlet will be supported with a set of gongs.

According to Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tan, Nam Tra My should actively take the opportunities of investment to complete the infrastructure and develop tourism in the ginseng area in combination with preserving and promoting ethnic cultural values. It is necessary to advertise, make some tourism connections with Bac Tra My, Tien Phuoc and other districts in the province, to perform virtual reality travel, and access smart travel. The Provincial People’s Committee promises to support Nam Tra My with ODA resources.
