Besides improving the water quality and the landscape surrounding Japanese Bridge, bettering the urban environment, and protecting the monuments of Hoi An city, the project contributes to regional economic development.
The project costs JPY 1.11 billion funded by the Government of Japan. JICA has finished the wastewater treatment plant (capacity of 2,000 m3/day), renovating the drainage canal around Japanese Bridge (about 1.68 km). After handing the plant over, JICA will help to train the labours for its operation until April 2019.
Thanks to Japanese advanced technology, the plant saves energy; the water quality after treatment is stable; the operating and maintenance costs are low.
Vietnam and Japan are deepening their strategic partnership based on their mutual trust and confidence. To implement the cooperation policy on high-quality infrastructure development of the Government of Japan, JICA will continue to speed up the cooperation projects on water infrastructure, contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam.
