Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange 2019

(QNO) - The opening ceremony of the 17th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange 2019 took place in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province on August 9. Present at the event were Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu and Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Umeda Kunio.

It is an annual event that is very attractive to visitors, especially the Japanese. The event also reflects the close cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan, Quang Nam and Japanese localities; thereby, it encourages Japanese businesses to invest in Quang Nam. It is a good chance for visitors to enjoy and experience both Vietnamese and Japanese artistic and cultural activities in Hoi An.

The Peaceful Festival 1998 taking place in Hoi An was considered the trigger for the Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange. At that event, Japanese Bridge was offered Koinobori (meaning “carp streamer” in Japanese), lanterns and wind chimes to decorate Hoi An. Up to now, former ambassador Sugi Ryotaro has spent 30 years working and giving Vietnam a lot of assistance, especially in orphanages and schools for the blind.

At the Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange 2019 occurring in Hoi An ancient quarter and An Hoi Sculpture Garden from 9 to 11 August, there are several interesting activities such as the exhibitions of handicraft products and images, teaching Japanese calligraphy, traditional artistic performances, sports, Yosakoi dancing, Shakuhachi flute, Cosplay and lots of other experiences.

The highlight of the event is the appearance of Princess Ngoc Hoa’s and Japanese merchant Araki Sotaro’s wedding on the Hoai river.

Sakai city (Osaka), Matsusaka (Mie) and Nagasaki are three Japanese localities take part in the Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange 2019.
