Thousand-year My Son ancient tower
(QNO) - In 2019, Quang Nam province celebrates the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of My Son Sanctuary as a world heritage site. It also marks a great journey of revival of these tower groups which were damaged and destroyed by time and wars.
Projects of conservation
My Son Sanctuary (Duy Xuyen distict, Quang Nam province) dates from the 4th to the 13th centuries CE. However, the site was really known in the late 19th century and early 20th centuries by French researchers. It opened the journey of conservation and restoration of these tower groups with the cooperation and supports of national and international experts, especially after My Son Sanctuary recognized as a world cultural site in 1999. For example, the conservation project of Group G has been done by Italy and Groups of K, H, and A by India. Especially, the title of a world cultural heritage has also created conditions for the upgrading of the infrastructure around this site.
Tourism promotion
In 1999, My Son welcomed about 3,000 tourists. This number of tourist arrivals to this site reached nearly 400,000 last year. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung from An Phu travel agency (Hoi An) said, visitors coming to My Son not only explore the ancient Cham temples but also experience pure natural and ecological values.
Along with the restoration of cultural values such as the Cham dance (2003), heritage-related education programs at school in Duy Xuyen district (2004) and restoration of natural forests... are also the highlights of My Son Sanctuary over 20 years.
