Tra Que vegetable village: new tourist attraction in Hoi An
The vegetable village of Tra Que located in Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city began welcoming visitors on the first of January, 2020 after it was planned and everything for tourism development here was rearranged. It was also the place where the first visitors to Hoi An were welcomed.
Tra Que is a traditional vegetable village founded over 400 years ago. It is about 2.5km Northeast of the ancient quarter of Hoi An, surrounded by De Vong river and Tra Que lagoon with mild climate year round.
The vegetable village of Tra Que has been well-known along with the development of Hoi An tourism. There have been several tours operated for visitors to do some sightseeing, experience farmers’ daily activities and enjoy local specialties in this village.
However, tourist activities in this village has not been planned methodically and the position of local communities in tourism has not been focused on yet. The village’s landscapes, environment and eco-system have consequently been at risk of being destroyed.
The plan for tourism development at Tra Que vegetable village was approved in September 2019. Accordingly, the tourism space in Tra Que vegetable village has been planned, including historical cultural sites. Community activities also become visitors’ experiences. All the tourism activities in this village have to be environment-friendly.
Tra Que becoming a tourist attraction contributes to tourism product diversification, the conservation and promotion of the craft village and sustainable tourism development in Hoi An.
