Tourism and forest protection
A survey into tourism in combination with forest protection has just been carried out from the Ru stream to 3-floor water fall of the special-use forest area in the Thanh river Nature Reserve.
It aims to have better methods of forest protection and management, and secure the local livelihood.
Forest protectors as tourist guides
The Thanh river Nature Reserve is believed to be suitable for the development of tourism thanks to its beautiful landscapes of primeval forests and the hydroelectric reservoir.
The Thanh river Nature Reserve is located in two districts of Quang Nam province: Nam Giang and Phuoc Son and shares the border with Laos.
There are 831 species of vascular plants. 23 of them are useful species and 38 in Vietnam’s Red Data Book, 53 mammal species, 44 reptile ones and 21 amphibian species.

In the time to come, Quang Nam will open the tour from the Ru stream to the 3-floor water fall in combination with forest protection and management. According to leaders of Quang Nam tourism sector, this tour is ecological and adventurous, attractive to visitors, especially to foreigners.
Quang Nam will create an opportunity to develop eco-tourism, protect forests and create jobs for the local residents. It is also the way to help raise the locals’ awareness of forest protection, link tourism products between provincial coastal and mountainous areas.
From Thanh My town, visitors go along National Way 14D to Vinh stream wharf, then go to Ru stream forest protection station by boat and start the tour.

Upgrading to Thanh river National Park
The Thanh river Nature Reserve is now well-preserved. However, it is necessary to increase the number of forest protectors and expenditure on forest preservation there. The opening of the tour in combination with forest protection is a good solution.
This is the ideal place for visitors to explore and contemplate the beauty of primeval forests and springs.
Hopefully, the place will be a tourist attraction where visitors have experience and exploration with the biodiversity and fresh environment. This new tourism form will help the Thanh river Nature Reserve become National Park.
To preserve biodiversity in this area, the Green Annamite project and the World Wildlife Fund have helped Quang Nam make a plan to upgrade the Thanh river Nature Reserve to National Park.
