Plan of Chua Cau restoration
A meeting related to Chua Cau restoration took place on December 17 between a Japanese delegation led by Chief Representative of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in Vietnam Shimizu Akira and leaders of Hoi An city, Quang Nam province.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Hoi An city People's Committee Nguyen Van Son said Chua Cau (is also called the Japanese Bridge) seriously deteriorated and needs to be restored urgently.
The plan of Chua Cau restoration has been postponed due to the impact of natural disasters and the coronavirus epidemic, lack of budget.
However, Hoi An city’s leaders is determined to carry out the restoration of Chua Cau by 2022 when the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations happens. So, Hoi An city hoped to receive the support from JICA for this plan.
Chief Representative of JICA Office in Vietnam, Mr. Shimizu Akira expressed his concern about the current situation of Chua Cau.
At the same time, he committed to working with Japanese partners to have the necessary support for Chua Cau restoration.
