ADB’s support for climate change adaption

(QNO) - Quang Nam and Binh Dinh are two provinces in South Central Vietnam receiving the support of USD 58 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve the infrastructure, especially in mountainous areas, raise their abilities to adapt to climate change.

The support focuses on building the infrastructure, helping ethnic minorities to adapt to climate change.

In the first phase, 121.8km of roads will be upgraded, meeting climate-resilient standards.

Besides, there will be a construction of 115km of water supply pipes and a system of facilities that can provide reliable data of weather and climate in time.

It is expected that the project will help better the living conditions of ethnic minorities in remote mountainous areas.

In addition, a grant aid of USD 2 million from ADB High-level Technology Fund and another of USD 21.73 million from the Government of Vietnam will be used to install data systems for climate risk management.

The support is of ADB’s efforts to eradicate extreme poverty for the sustainable development in the Asia- Pacific region.
