(QNO) - Traditional handicrafts have great cultural values that Hoi An city is trying to preserve and promote for tourism development.

Hoi An used to be a busy international trading port with over 50 handicrafts grouped by fine arts, handicrafts, mining services, processing and special occupations.

Several craft villages in Hoi An have recently been preserved and exploited for tourism development, including Kim Bong carpentry, Thanh Ha pottery, Tra Que vegetables, Cam Thanh bamboo and nipa palm products, and An My farming. They are really attractive to local and foreign visitors.

Rural daily activities and cultural values are often impressive and attractive to visitors, especially foreigners.

Moreover, they are also interested in handmade products and peaceful natural landscapes.

So, the craft villages in Hoi An become tourist attractions charming to visitors.

In recent years, the tourism space in Hoi An has been expanded to the countryside to promote and exploit local ecological and cultural resources.

Ecotourism and craft village tourism has been diversified in Hoi An with different services such as accommodation, shopping, cuisine, experience, and exploitation.

Some destinations have become famous, including Tra Que vegetable village, Thanh Ha pottery village, Cham Islands, and Cam Chau field.

Besides cultural and natural values, visitors to Hoi An have chance to experience the locals’ daily activities such as sowing rice, planting flowers, watering plants, knitting nets, casting nets and fishing in the river.

To make Hoi An tourism further develop,  Hoi An has set up two projects on the craft village development in Cam Kim and Tra Que with a variety of tourism products, contributing to improving the locals’ income and promoting craft village values.
