Denmark goes ahead with US$13.6 bln offshore wind farm in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Representatives of the Danish Embassy and investors have vowed to implement a mammoth offshore wind farm project in Hai Phong city during a recent meeting with leaders of the municipal administration.
The project, if approved, will be carried out in the waters about 14km southeast of Bach Long Vy island and 36 km northwest of the Long Chau archipelago, with an estimated investment of US$13.6 billion. It will be undertaken by Denmark-headquartered Ørsted and Vietnamese cross-industry company T&T Group.
The wind farm will have a total design capacity of 3,900MW and will be divided into three phases to be put into operation by 2029, 2035 and 2037 respectively.
This was the third working session between the two sides to examine the feasibility of the project.
Nguyen Duc Tho, vice chairman of the municipal administration, highly appreciated the Danish side’s determination to carry out the project, noting the project fits in line with the Vietnamese National Energy Development Strategy which prioritises the exploitation and use of renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, it will also help the city to solve electricity problems and meet all development requirements.
Tho requested that investors send specific reports outlining the difficulties, as well as completing relevant research and preparing to conduct a survey on the location.
After two previous working sessions, Hai Phong proposed that the Prime Minister name the city's offshore wind power plant project as part of the National Power Development Plan for the 2021 to 2030 period, with a vision towards 2045.
