Disabled children on an exchange
(QNO) - A disabled children exchange was jointly held in Quang Nam on August 10 by the Quang Nam Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), and Medipeace.
The exchange aimed to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the Day for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Vietnam.
There were nearly 200 disabled children and young victims of agent orange/dioxin at the event.
They came from Phu Ninh, Nui Thanh, Hiep Duc, Tien Phuoc, Tam Ky, and the Centre for Rehabilitation under the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Quang Nam.
Besides being provided with food, clothes and healthcare, disabled children need to have opportunities for social integration and to improve their spiritual life.
Cho Han-Deog- Country Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Vietnam said that KOICA had deployed a lot of programmes and projects on the disabled’s integration in Vietnam.
One of them is rehabilitating the children with disabilities and bettering their quality of life implemented by Medipeace.
It is carried out in Quang Nam province, building 9 rehabilitation rooms, renovating 80 houses, and providing rehabilitation equipment for three provincial hospitals.
Besides, the project provides training courses and capacity building programmes for healthcare technicians.
According to Cho Han-Deog, the disabled also need to be happy; so, KOICA projects are aimed at helping them develop normally, making them happier and happier.
The exchange was one of the activities to promote the disabled’s self-confidence and to provide them with an opportunity for social integration.
