(QNO) - On November 15, Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online national symposium discussing the rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam’s tourism. Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh took part in the event.

In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam welcomed more than 9.97 million international tourist arrivals and 98.7 million domestic ones.

Vietnam's total revenue from tourism activities hit 582.6 trillion VND. Accordingly, the number of international visitors to Vietnam exceeded the target for the whole year.

Vietnam tourism won 54 Asia-leading awards from the World Travel Awards in 2023, which affirms the brand and position of Vietnamese tourism on the world travel map.

According to Google’s market trend tracker tool, the volume of international searches for Vietnam’s tourism has surged by 50-70 percent, the fourth highest increase in the world.

The number of international tourist arrivals to Quang Nam province reached 3.3 million in the first 10 months of this year.

Wanderlust - a UK-based travel magazine, has listed the central province of Quang Nam among Asia’s top four sustainable destinations.

Travel+Leisure names Hoi An (Quang Nam) in the top 15 best cities in Asia. Tan Thanh fishing village (Quang Nam) wins the ASEAN tourism award.

PM Chinh said tourism is identified as Vietnam’s key economic sector, making an important contribution to creating livelihoods for people, reducing poverty and hunger, attracting investment, promoting growth, restructuring the economy, preserving and promoting national historical values, and bridging international exchanges.

The event, the second of its kind this year, brought representatives from the 63 cities and provinces together.

It shows that the Government of Vietnam tries to revive the country’s tourism industry in a fast and sustainable manner.

In his opening speech, PM Chinh emphasized that a change in mindset is needed for the entire tourism industry.

He underlined the importance of taking full advantage of opportunities and overcoming challenges for the tourism industry’s sustainable development moving forward.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that Vietnam’s tourism industry has set a target of fully recovering as it was before the COVID-19 pandemic and becoming an attractive destination by 2025.

Vietnam expects to welcome up to 18 million international tourist arrivals and 130 million domestic ones, accounting for 6 - 8% of the GDP of the country by 2025.
