Vietnam investing over 5.47 billion USD in Laos
(QNO) - Laos ranks first among 79 countries and territories of Vietnam’s investment abroad, with 241 projects with a total registered capital of 5.47 billion USD.
The Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Festival 2023 has just opened in Hue city by the Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications coordinated with the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (1962 - 2023).
Vietnam ranks third among the countries in the world investing in Laos, especially in the fields of communications and information technology.
Many large-scale firms of Vietnam, such as Viettel, VNPT and FPT, have invested tens of millions of dollars in Laos, contributing to turning Laos into one of the countries with the widest 4G coverage in Southeast Asia and high-speed internet services.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications of Vietnam Nguyen Thanh Lam said the event aims to promote the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in terms of digital technology, digital transformation, especially in press and communications, digital infrastructure, digital trade and economy.
A memorandum of understanding on cooperation has also been signed by the Department of External Information, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Department of Mass Communications of Vietnam and the Department of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos. It aims to promote the cooperation of information and communications between Vietnam and Laos.
According to Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Laos Phosy Keomanivong, information and communications are always considered outstanding fields in the relationship between Laos and Vietnam.
