President Thuong to attend APEC Economic Leaders’ Week

VOV.VN - President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week from November 14-17 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden, and engage in bilateral activities in San Francisco, the US.

Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said this at the ministry’s regular press meeting in Hanoi on November 9.

The President's working visit is made in the context of the 30th anniversary of the first APEC Summit taking place in the US in 1993 and also marked the 25th anniversary of Vietnam's entry to the organization in 1998.

According to the spokesperson, at the APEC Summit Week, President Vo Van Thuong will attend the APEC Summit, hold dialogues between APEC leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), and between APEC leaders and guests.

The Vietnamese State leader is set to give a speech at the APEC CEO Summit and have bilateral meetings with leaders of the member economies.

Activities in the US by President Vo Van Thuong will also deepen bilateral relations between Vietnam and the US, Hang added.

During 25 years of joining the APEC, Vietnam has actively and proactively contributed to the forum as a way of promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and regional economic integration, and maintaining APEC's role as a leading economic linkage mechanism in Asia - Pacific.

The APEC forum currently has 21 member economies, including the world's leading economies such as USA, China, and Japan, 9 members of the Group 20 major economies (G20) alongside many newly emerging and dynamically developing economies, representing about 38% of the world's population, and contributing 61% to GDP and 47% to global trade.
