In 2017, Ho Cong Thai rented land for building a 4,000m2 hydroponic vegetable garden with a total capital of one million VND. According to Thai, growng hydroponic vegetable brings various benefits. The plants grow well and 95% of pests is limited. Besides, it does not take much time to take care of plants. Nutritious fresh vegetables planted in Thai’s garden such as salad, water spinach, mustard greens are sold at high prices.

Recently, an aquaponics system has been put into use in Thai’s vegetable garden. It combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment. So, a fish tank is under the hydroponic vegetable. Waste from fish is used to feed vegetables. After that, roots will purify the water to return to the aquarium.

Thai said the difficulty of growing hydroponic vegetables is a huge initial investment cost. However, this model is effective because its productivity is 2-3 times higher than the traditional vegetable growing on land. He can earn about VND 300 million per year.
