Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Consulate General of Japan in Da Nang City and of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Office in Vietnam.

The 400-year-old bridge is a unique architectural work of art not only in Vietnam but also in the world.

The Japanese Covered Bridge is under harsh natural conditions and affected by many factors of time, natural environment and human beings.

Although it has undergone 7 times of being restored,  it is increasingly seriously degraded.

The total investment of the project is 20.2 billion VND, 50% from Quang Nam province and 50% from Hoi An city authorities, with the support of the Sumitomo Foundation and Japanese experts.

The project includes reinforcing the bridge foundation and base system, abutments, piers, floor, wooden frame, roof; renovating the electrical system, against termites.

In addition, the project will also digitize the monument by using 3D technology for storage and restoration, seminars,  making scientific records, embellishing the landscape and technical infrastructure.
