Hoi An’s Mid-Autumm Festival – a national intangible cultural heritage
(QNO) - Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn Festival has just been listed as a Vietnam’s intangible cultural heritage. The festival takes place on the 14th day of the eighth lunar month in Hoi An ancient town, Quang Nam province.
The Mid-Autumn Festival plays an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
The festival is also known as the Reunion Day or Children's Festival.
On this occasion, family members often try to get together, preparing meals to offer the ancestors. Children are given gifts and take part in lantern parades, dealing out cakes, contemplating lion dance…
The Mid-Autumn Festival is held in most families, schools, workplaces in Hoi An city.
According to the Centre for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation of Hoi An city, this year, the festival will be held with various activities and cultural performances in the old quarter and on the Hoai River banks on September 29, promoting tourism recovery after COVID-19.
Now, Hoi An city owns 5 national intangible cultural heritages including the First Full Moon Festival (the 15th day of the first lunar month or Tet Nguyen tieu), Thanh Chau Bird's Nest, Thanh Ha Pottery Village, Carpentry of Kim Bong Village and Tra Que Vegetable Garden.
