Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn Festival - a Vietnam’s intangible cultural heritage
(QNO) - A ceremony of receiving the title "National Intangible Cultural Heritage For Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn Festival" was solemnly held in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province on the evening of September 28.
The event was opened with the Thien Cau (Tengue) dance. It re-enacts the image of tengu spitting out the moon, signaling a good harvest and a peaceful life.
According to Director of Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Pham Phu Ngoc, the Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn Festival is a long-standing tradition, social customs and beliefs formed on the basis of the local cultural characteristics and attached to the development of Hoi An urban - commercial port.
The Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn takes place on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month in Hoi An ancient town, attracting a lot of local people and visitors.
Hoi An’s Mid-Autumn Festival was recognized as a National intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam on February 28, 2023.
