VFBC project for green growth in Quang Nam
(QNO) - A meeting to access the results of the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) took place on the morning of December 10. At the same time, the meeting announced its plan for 2023.
According to Pham Viet Tich, Director of the VFBC project in Quang Nam, the province highly appreciated the support from the VFBC project for the provincial transition to an economy with low emission and green growth via value chains of timber and non-timber products.
Reportedly, the VFBC project is carried out in 11 provinces and 3 national parks in the period of 2020-2025.
It consists of two main components, sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.
As one of the provinces with the largest forest area in Vietnam, Quang Nam has potential and advantages to deploy both components of the project.
The cooperative model of sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation has always been highly appreciated by local authorities, businesses and communities.
Enterprises have accessed green, environmentally friendly production methods and techniques.
The locals can increase their capacity, improve their livelihoods, and efficiently develop raw material areas.
The project also helps better authorities’ forest management and development.
On this occasion, the management board of the VFBC in Quang Nam (QNMB) received the equipment for the project’s component of biodiversity conservation.
At the same time, a cooperative agreement on sustainable forest management related to medicinal herbs and acacia nursery was signed between the QNMB and Viet Linh Ginseng Joint Stock Company (Nam Tra My), Minh Phuc Tra My Cinnamon Cooperative (Bac Tra My), Dong Tra Agricultural Cooperative (Nam Tra My) and Duc Uyen Company Limited (Hiep Duc).
