Tam Ky-South Korea cooperation

(QNO) - The cooperative relation between Tam Ky city (Quang Nam province) and South Korean localities and organizations has been strengthened over recent years.

The year 2005 marked the initial success of Tam Ky’s foreign affairs when the city established the friendship with South Korean International Village organization in welfare and education. Beside scholarships for Tam Ky city’s poor students, South Korea funded a complex of welfare and education in An Phu ward (Tam Ky city) including a nursery school and a center for Korean language studies. It is also a place of South Korea-Vietnam cultural exchange, creating many prospects of the two countries’ friendship. Thanks to South Korean International Lotus Village organization, the volunteering delegations including medical staff, students from South Korean universities have many humanitarian activities in the city every year.

In 2011, the cooperative agreement between Tam Ky and Dalseo district (Daegu city, South Korea) was officially signed. Many South Korean businesses invested into Tam Ky city such as the garment-textile Panko Group in Tam Thang Industrial Park, Shinchang company in medical equipment. South Korea supported the city in economic development, education, new rural building….

The project of Tam Thanh mural village in the city funded by the UN-Habitat and Korea Foundation has bought new appearance to this fishing village, attracting international and domestic visitors and improving the local residents’ income. According to Chief of Dalseo district Lee Tae Hoon, the cooperative exchange between Dalseo district and Tam Ky city has developed positively since 2011, especially in such fields as culture, education and agriculture, creating favourable conditions towards a comprehensive cooperation in which local people play an important role.
