Nam Giang – Dak Cheung: Cooperation for sustainable development
(QNO) - The situations of socio-economy, security and national defence along the Vietnam-Laos border through Quang Nam and Sekong provinces have been bettered thanks to exchange activities between the hamlets and villages of Nam Giang (Quang Nam) and Dak Cheung (Sekong) districts, especially their cooperative relationship.

After 3 years of cooperation, the friendship between Nam Giang and Dak Cheung districts has left deep impressions on the authorities and people of these localities.
For ensuring security and national defence, the border is always heavily patrolled. Periodic meetings and discussions on border sovereignty, political and social security in the border area of Nam Giang and Dak Cheung districts are also held. Besides border security, two parties have paid much attention to cultural life and socio-economic development. Nam Giang district annually gives VND 200 million to people in Dak Cheung district in order to help them with their production and poverty alleviation. At the 3rd annual conference 2016, Nam Giang offered Dak Cheung VND 400 million to develop the economy in accordance with natural conditions there. In addition, the import, export and trade exchanges through Nam Giang border gate are constantly improved.
The cooperative programme between Nam Giang and Dak Cheung districts kept on being discussed at the 4th annual conference 2017. The problems of socio-economic development, education, free migration and illegal marriage were considered important. The authorities of Nam Giang district planned to build a VND 2 billion 5-room hostel for boundary students, and helped Dak Cheung district build and upgrade its infrastructure, stabilize people’s lives.
