The ceremony of offering and planting Oga lotus (an ancient species of Japanese lotus) took place in Dien Ban town (Quang Nam province) on January 11.

Present at the event were Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh, Mayor of Kinokawa city (who offered the lotus), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam Umeda Kunio among others.

Oga lotus is planned to plant in the lake in Dien Ban administrative centre. It is well-known that the 2000-year-old Oga lotus seeds were discovered by Japanese Biologist Oga Ichiro. This type of lotus has been planted in Kinokawa for 10 years.

Vietnamese lotus was given to Japan 7 years ago. Both Oga and Vietnamese lotus flowers are planted in Kinokawa; they are very beautiful. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc enjoyed the beauties of Vietnamese and Oga lotuses in Kinokawa in June, 2019.

He wanted the Vietnam-Japanese relations to be as beautiful as lotus flowers. Mr. Nakamura Shinjji also hoped the same thing with Quang Nam and Kinokawa.

In April 2004, ancient Japanese lotus was also given to Vietnam, which was considered as an evidence of close relationship between Japan and Vietnam.

Then, in November 2007, Vietnamese lotus was offered to Japan. Both Vietnamese and ancient Japanese lotuses are planted in Kinokawa city.

Chairman Le Tri Thanh thought that lotus flower would be the symbol of Quang Nam and Kinokawa sustainable cooperative relationships.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam Umeda Kunio, the Vietnam-Japan relations have been constantly expanding in politics, economy, education…

The number of cultural exchanges and twinnings between Vietnamese and Japanese local governments has increased, especially in the last 5 years. He also hoped a good relationship between Quang Nam and Kinokawa through the image of lotus.
