It is part of the Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway of the South-North expressway, the first of its kind in Central Vietnam to be invested by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation under the plan of Vietnam expressway network development until 2020 and vision towards 2030. The 139.5km project started on May 19, 2013 with the total investment capital of VND34,516 billion in the first phase, through Da Nang city, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces. The Da Nang-Tam Ky expressway shortens the transportation distance and time between Central Vietnam’s key economic centers and industrial zones in Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. It also creates new opportunities for investors, hastening the establishment and development of industrial zones and tourism in the region, contributing to socio-economic development, security and national defence, improving the local residents’ income, linking the localities in the Central to the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam economic triangle area via the East-West Economic Corridor. The Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway is expected to be completed and put into operation at the end of this year.
