(QNO) - The opening ceremony of the Tra My Cinnamon Festival 2023 took place in Bac Tra My district on the evening of July 5. Present at the event were leaders of Quang Nam province and Bac Tra My district.

In the 17-18th centuries, Tra My cinnamon was popular with foreign merchants from Spain, Arab, China, etc. It used to be exported through Hoi An trading port.

The geographical indications for Tra My cinnamon and cinnamon bark products were certified by the Intellectual Property Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

Some plans were approved for the preservation and development of Tra My cinnamon in the period of 2018-2025. Accordingly, there will be about 3,000 hectares of cinnamon in Bac Tra My district by 2025. Cinnamon is considered the key economic tree, contributing to sustainable poverty alleviation in the district.

The Festival of Tra My Cinnamon was held with a lot of activities, including performance art, display and advertising of Tra My cinnamon and local OCOP products, reappearance of the cultural living space of ethnic minorities, start-up forum on Tra My cinnamon, camping, and Tra My photo exhibition.
