(QNO) - A team of divers from the UNESCO’s Cham Islands World Biosphere Reserve (Hoi An city, Quang Nam province) collects trash and wipes out thorny starfish every day to clean the seabed and protect marine corals there.

Garbage found on the seabed mostly includes plastic, metal, glass, rubber, wood, clothing/fabric and others.
At first, this team consisted of 10 divers who are staffs in the Cham Islands Marine Protected Area. Now, more 10 members are added.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy a member of the team from the Management Board of Cham Islands Marine Protected Area said cleaning the seabed helped her discover many interesting things and protect the coral reefs there well.

Seabed cleaning is a project sponsored by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Vietnam. Besides cleaning the seabed, the project aims to reduce plastic waste sources.

The work of the diving team is very meaningful. It not only beautifies the coral reefs and beaches around Cham Islands but also reduces the impact of plastic waste there.
