(QNO) - Quang Nam province is determined to develop its dynamic regions, especially the eastern region, by upgrading the airport, seaports, and transport system.
Great potential
According to national and provincial plans, it is necessary to develop the infrastructure and enlarge the channels in the area of Chu Lai seaport, make it an important port connecting to Hai Phong and Sai Gon seaports.
The volume of cargo transported through Chu Lai seaport was 3 million tons in 2021. It is expected to be 4.5 million tons in 2022 and 8.3 million tons in 2023. So, enlarging the seaport is now essential so that it can receive 50- thousand- ton ships.
Chu Lai seaport is also planned to become an international container port which may help to respond to the needs of goods transportation, reduce transportation cost, and increase investment attraction in Quang Nam and Central Vietnam.
In another aspect, Chu Lai airport is planned to upgrade to become a cargo airport at a large scale in the region. It is a great opportunity for Chu Lai airport to grow as Danang international airport cannot be expanded due to its overloading infrastructure, high cost of site clearance, and capacities to satisfy the requirements for safety and environmental protection.
Investment proposals
The system of seaport and airport in Quang Nam will stimulate the growth of the provincial eastern region, making it a driving force for the development of both Quang Nam and Central Vietnam.
Reportedly, Quang Nam has submitted a proposal on socialisation of the new Chu Lai port channel; an association of the port with Tam Hoa-Tam Hiep wharf system, Tam Hoa non-tariff zone and container logistics area in Chu Lai seaport.
The province has also suggested setting up a project on socialisation of investment in Chu Lai airport to exploit all its potential and advantages.
At the same time, Quang Nam will be allowed to develop the operating mechanism of Tam Quang non-tariff zone associated with Chu Lai airport.
East-west transport
The road through Nam Giang- Dak Ta Ook international border gate is currently the shortest way between Eastern Thailand, Southern Laos and Chu Lai international port, other seaports, and economic zones in Central Vietnam.
It is expected to satisfy increasingly needs of import and export, to encourage the cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development.
The road will be built by THACO and is expected to come into operation by 2025. At the same time, the National Highway 14E will also be upgraded in the period of 2021-2025.
New pieces of colour
Quang Nam has much aspiration towards setting up a national key supporting industry ecosystem in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (OEZ).
Quang Nam wants to deploy a pilot mechanism on production cooperation between supporting and mechanical industries in which THACO (Truong Hai Auto Corporation) is the key. Then a national key supporting industry ecosystem will be formed in the Chu Lai OEZ.
Besides, the centre for silica industry and natural pharmaceutical industry are considered as two new pieces of colours in the picture of economic development in the eastern region of Quang Nam province.
Quang Nam also focuses on developing and exploiting indigenous medicinal herbs, especially Ngoc Linh ginseng, towards a national-level natural pharmaceutical industry centre with the key of Ngoc Linh ginseng. The province will let out forest environment to plant the ginseng and develop a large area of medicinal herbs under the natural forest canopy.
Quang Nam has an aspiration towards a national-level natural pharmaceutical industry centre where pharmaceutical products are developed, including drugs, functional foods, consumer foods, cosmetics, and others containing Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal herbs. The centre is also a place of the application of high-tech scientific achievements.
