(QNO) – The 1st Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival – Ngoc Linh Legend happened in Nam Tra My district (Quang Nam province) on June 10.

Present at the opening ceremony were Vice Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong, leaders and ex-leaders of Quang Nam province and provincial services, and thousands of local people.
The Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival is an activity of the 6th Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2017. It aims to honor and promote the endemic values of Ngoc Linh ginseng products, and bring the brand name of Ngoc Linh ginseng, a medicinal plant to the world. At the same time, the festival is also an opportunity for people to know the legendary story of Ngoc Linh ginseng, traditional culture of the ethnic peoples of Nam Tra My district.

Ngoc Linh ginseng, one of the five most precious medicinal species in the world, contains 52 compounds of saponin. Since the Prime Minister’s approval, the conservation and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng has been paid more attention and given significant achievements.

There is an area of over 15,000ha for ginseng plantation with the participation of over 1,000 households in 7 communes of Nam Tra My district. The ginseng has also been planted in some other areas with similar natural conditions. Modern scientific techniques have been applied to plant and process this kind of ginseng. The prices of Ngoc Linh ginseng, and the ethnic minority people’s awareness of the ginseng plantation and forest protection have increased steadily.
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong announced the issue of the special stamp of Ngoc Linh Ginseng to 168 countries. It is the first set of Ngoc Linh ginseng stamps to be issued in order to promote the brand name of Vietnamese ginseng products widely to the world.

Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee Le Tri Thanh affirmed at the opening that the Prime Minister’s approval of Ngoc Linh ginseng as the national product- the Vietnamese ginseng- is the Quang Nam’s and Nam Tra My district's honor. The ginseng not only helps people improve their economic life but also contribute to forest preservation. Therefore, the local authorities, businesses and scientists will continue to make Ngoc Linh ginseng a domestic and international reliable brand name.
