(QNO) - Quang Nam leaders have just had a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) led by Grant Townsend Coastes.

At the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Tran Anh Tuan talked about the local potential for and advantages in socio-economic development, about Quang Nam culture and people.
He also mentioned American programmes and projects in Quang Nam. They include 8 projects on electronics, apparel, education, and restaurant services with a total capital of nearly USD 21 million; the 15-million-dollar Truong Son Xanh (Green Annamites) project in the period of 2016-2020; 21 programmes and projects in agriculture and rural development, healthcare, education.

Besides, Tran Anh Tuan mentioned the number of victims infected with Agent Orange/Dioxin and of places affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war, the results of looking for prisoners of war and missing persons at the locality.
Thereby, he hoped VVA to keep their support for Quang Nam with humanitarian programs related to Agent Orange/Dioxin victims, search for Vietnamese soldiers who died in the war, gathering the remains of martyrs, and mine clearance projects.

Grant Townsend Coastes said that they would make every effort to carry out the Veterans Initiative Program in order to provide information about Vietnamese soldiers dying and missing during the war.
He also promised to suggest the US Government supporting Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in hope of partially healing the wounds of war and strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

Earlier, the VVA delegation paid a visit to the Veterans Association of Quang Nam province.
