New master plan on developing tourism in the Southern Central coastal region until 2020, vision to 2030

(QNO) - The Southern central coastal region of Vietnam includes Da Nang city and 7 provinces: Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

According to the master plan which was approved by the Prime Minister on 16th May 2015, Da Nang city will be developed to become a tourism center of the  southern central coastal region and northern sub-region (includes Da Nang city and three provinces Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh); Nha Trang city of Khanh Hoa province will be the tourism center of the southern sub-region (includes four provinces Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan).

In order to implement the orientation above, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and local authorities will invest to develop nine national tourism zones and six national tourism destinations include Son Tra, Ba Na, Ngu Hanh Son (Da Nang city), the Cham Island,  My Son Sanctuary site (Quang Nam), My Khe beach, Trong Luy (Quang Ngai), Phuong Mai (Binh Dinh), Xuan Dai bay (Phu Yen), Truong Sa archipelago, Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa), Ninh Chu beach (Binh Thuan), Phu Quy island, Mui Ne (Binh Thuan) and four tourism  urbans (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet).

“The master plan for the southern central coastal region sets a target of exploiting the potentials and advantages of the region to develop sea and island tourism and makes it become the top strength of Vietnamese tourism; develops modern tourism urban areas, national tourism zones, destinations with high standard services. Vietnam tries to develop national tourism as an economy’s important sector by 2020 and a key economic sector of the regional economy structure by 2030. This development will contribute to affirming the national sovereignty and sovereignty rights on Vietnam’s seas and islands” said Mrs Dang Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

The main development orientations in the master plan are simultaneously developing domestic and international tourism markets. It’s necessary to focus the attractions on the tourism markets in North-Eastearn Europe, Russia, Eastern Europe and South East and maintain the traditional markets in Western and Northern Europe, Northern America, Australia and Oceania.  At the same time, the new markets such as India, Turkey and Middle East countries will be expanded…

For domestic markets, we will develop the ones of inner-regions and from Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city and Central Highlands provinces; encourage to develop and enlarge special tourism markets and “tourism – mission combination” tours. For tourism products, the development of marine convalescence tourism and “tourism – world cultural heritages combination” tours will be given priority.

Besides, the tourism developing spaces include tourism sub-regions, tourism areas, destinations and tourism lines… will be organised.

The plan will be invested by national budget, FDI, organisations, enterprises, domestic economic sectors and other legal capital sources. The developing capital will be priorly  invested into nine national tourism zones in the region and four tourism development programmes. The last important tasks are human resource development, tourism promotion and regional trade mark building, key tourism infrastructure and natural potential conservation, restoration and development.

Under the master plan for tourism development of the southern central coastal region,  by 2020, Vietnam hopes to welcome 15 million tourists, including 4.5 million international visitors and 25 million tourists by 2030 (7.5 million foreign travellers). The total turnover will reach at 70 billion VND by 2020 and 160 billion VND by 2030. The plan implementation will also generate jobs for 700,000 labourers.
