Join hands for Hoi An World Heritage

(QNO) - The launching ceremony of the contest “Join hands for the world heritage of Hoi An 2015” took place in Hoi An city on the evening of July 30th. The competition will last until September 27th, 2015.

It is known as the first social event to be held by Quang Nam Tourism Association, Hoi An city’s People’s Committee and Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the support of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) and International Labour Organization (ILO). It aims to campaign for  getting the initiatives from business bloc and individuals of transmitting the message of entrance tickets to Hoi An ancient town and their significances for the preservation and restoration of this world cultural heritage site.

Dr Duong Bich Hanh, Representative of the “Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Development” Project Management Board in the central region of Viet Nam said that Hoi An- a lower section of Thu Bon river, is always affected by storms, floods and climate changes. However, the hundreds-year-old wooden architectural works which are also a group of urban architectures with the residents here become one of the typical examples successful in preserving heritages in Asia, and in bringing into play the heritages’ values via cultural tourism.

During 15 years in the World Heritages List, 6.5 million tickets have been sold in Hoi An ancient town with more than 370  billion VND. Over 70% of this amount of money has been used to restore and embellish 220 relics including club-houses, pagodas, temples, ancient houses. This preservation has blown a new vitality to this ancient town. It reflects Hoi An - “a prominent tangible symbol of multi-cultural connections through periods of an international commercial port” and “a typical model of a traditional Asian port perfectly preserved”. Hoi An was also offered prizes for conservation by UNESCO in Asia-Pacific region in the years 2000 and 2007.

Mr Vo Van Van- Chairman of Quang Nam Tourism Association and the members of the organization board of the competition “Join hands for the world heritage of Hoi An 2015” believed that domestic and foreign people will be very impressed by a locality rich in cultures, proud of and responsible for heritages. “The  tourists’ experiencing activities  will be diversified, contributing to local tourism development, improving the locals’ income and creating more jobs for the residents”, said Mr Van.
