(QNO) - Quang Nam, one of the Vietnam’s localities receiving many development support projects from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The province has initiatively cooperated with JICA to carry out the projects effectively to bring great benefits to local communities.

JICA in Hoi An
Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) has a long-standing relationship with Japanese people. Particularly, Chua Cau (Japanese Bridge) is associated with past trade activities between Hoi An and Japan. Over recent years, Hoi An city has received lots of the non-refundable aid projects and development partner program from JICA, such as improvement projects of water quality in Chua Cau, living environment, hygiene and eco-city.

Support for residents on islands JICA has launched the project of diversification of livelihoods through heritage tourism in remote agricultural and fishery villages for Tan Hiep commune (Cham Islands, Hoi An city). The project was implemented in early 2016 and lasted for 3 years. It focuses on tourism, food service, waste reduction in order to respond the program "Say no to plastic bags" in Cham Islands. |
Besides Hoi An, many other localities in Quang Nam have attracted JICA’s investment in transportation, agriculture, which contributes to the socio-economic development in the province. At a seminar held in Da Nang city in the beginning of this year, Assistant Chef Representative of JICA Vietnam Office Kobayashi Ryutaro said that, the local authorities’ synchronous cooperation creates favorable conditions for JICA to carry out the projects. Japanese experts committed to supporting and proposing the most feasible solutions to coast protection in Quang Nam in particular and Central Vietnam in general.
In August 2017, the 65km expressway from Da Nang city (at Tuy Loan) to Tam Ky city (Quang Nam province) funded by JICA was put into operation. The 1st phase of Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway was invested more than 1.64 billion USD, 798.5 million USD of which came from JICA. The completion of this expressway will shorten the transportation distance and time between Central Vietnam’s key economic centers and industrial zones in Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. It also creates new opportunities for investors. The project on widening safe vegetable production and developing the traditional handicraft products at My Hung Safe Vegetables Cooperative (Binh Trieu commune, Thang Binh district) with the support from JICA is running well, helping the farmers in Hung My vegetable village improve their income and access safe agricultural production.
