Forest plantations

There are now tens of thousands of hectares of planted forest in several districts of Quang Nam province (namely Tien Phuoc, Phuoc Son, Tay Giang, Bac Tra My, Nam Tra My, Nam Giang, Dong Giang, Hiep Duc, Nong Son, Que Son, Thang Binh, and Dai Loc) and big timber forests are given priority.

Local residents and businesses are encouraged to take part in the forest plantation. In the period of 2019-2020, 9,320 hectares of big timber forest earns the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.

The USAID Green Annamites Project has supported to set up a big timber forest value chain, from the nursery to product manufacturing and distribution.

It is expected that there will be 4,560 hectares of big timber forest meeting the requirement for the FSC certification at the end of 2020.

Chainlink investment

Many localities of Quang Nam province have invested in big timber forest plantation. At the same time, they have built several linking models in forest plantation and protection such as groups and cooperatives.

Besides, there are other links between forest planters, between forest planters and timber processers. According to Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan, chainlink development is a trend towards forest plantation and logging and timber processing.

The Government of Vietnam is heavily investing in special-use forests to protect biodiversity and ecosystem, and improve people’s lives.

It is necessary to pay more attention to home market beside export market. Also, non-timber forest products, especially medicinal herbs, should be developed because their value is several times more than that of timber.
