(QNO) - The 10th International Yoga Day was held on the evening of June 22 at 24/3 Square in Tam Ky city.
With the theme Yoga: Empowering Women, the event was jointly arranged by the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee and the Indian Embassy in Vietnam.
Present at the event were Subhash Prasad Gupta, Deputy Ambassador of India to Vietnam, representatives from various provincial departments and sectors, and more than 550 yoga practitioners from 25 Yoga clubs in the province.
June 21 was designated as International Yoga Day in 2014 by the United Nations General Assembly.
Since then, International Yoga Day has been celebrated annually with the participation of millions of people around the world.
In Quang Nam, the Yoga movement has grown strongly over the years. In 2023, Quang Nam successfully celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day.
Giving a speech at the event, Tao Viet Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Nam, said that Quang Nam was pleased to continue collaborating with the Indian Embassy and Indian agencies and units in Vietnam to organise the 10th International Day of Yoga.
The event celebrates the 52nd anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India (1972 - 2024) and the 77th anniversary of Indian Independence.
According to Tao Viet Hai, through the event, Quang Nam hopes to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the province and the Indian Embassy, as well as Indian partners, especially in cultural exchange.
The event also helps Quang Nam residents further understand about the unique culture of India, highlight the health benefits of practicing Yoga. So, Yoga serves as a cultural and human bridge between Vietnam and India.
Subhash Prasad Gupta, Deputy Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, stated that International Yoga Day celebrations are taking place in at least 35 provinces and cities across the country this year.
This shows the widespread interest of Vietnamese people in Yoga. Yoga represents a shared cultural relationship and a national and human bond in the pursuit of health and well-being.
On this occasion, Quang Nam introduced the Campaign Board for the foundation of the Quang Nam provincial Yoga Federation and presented commemorative flags to 25 Yoga clubs participating in the 10th International Yoga Day.
After the ceremony, more than 550 Yogis and yoginis performed common Yoga protocols under the guidance of Pham Hung, Director of the Vietnam Yoga Academy, Yoga instructor Nayvi Singh, and members of the Campaign Board for the foundation of the Quang Nam provincial Yoga Federation.
Furthermore, the Yoga Clubs interact with the distinctive Yoga art shows.
