(QNO) - Quang Nam has recently applied advanced Dutch technology to build underwater dykes to protect the Hoi An coastline from waves.

The dykes can break remote waves, helping beach nourishment. It is considered a superior solution that limits direct impacts of waves, preventing coastline erosion in order to protect Hoi An coastline effectively and sustainably.

Thanks to the underwater dykes, more than 3,500 metres of seriously eroded coastline is gradually recovering.

After 3 years of coming into use, the dykes along Cua Dai coast have protected Hoi A coastline from the risk of landsxlides due to storms, high tides, and tropical depressions causing strong ocean waves.

According to Hoi An leaders, the underwater dykes were effective during the stormy seasons of 2022 and 2023.

About 70% of the sandy beach along the dykes has basically been kept.

Currently, Quang Nam is keeping an investment of VND 210 billion to build 550 metres of embankment and create beaches in the An Bang area. The project is expected to finish in August this year.

At the same time, Quang Nam is attempting to promote the construction of the remaining 4.5 kilometres of underwater dykes. It is expected that the dykes will help restore and protect the whole Hoi An coastline.

Along with building the underwater dyke system, Quang Nam is making use of an amount of 500,000 cubic metres of sand from channel dredging activities in Cua Dai to replenish and create over 1.5-kilometre beaches, contributing to preserving beautiful beaches and creating motivation for local economic recovery and development.
