The CSA model has been applied in 12 communes and towns in Thang Binh district. The area used for rice cultivation is over one thousand hectares and for crop rotation is 65 hectares of rice land.

45 other hectares is served for the diversification of crops. The total area for this model is now 7,200 hectares. Using the CSA model, farmers have received technical support, seeding and sowing tools.

The CSA model is assessed to be more effective than traditional farming models. It reduces from 20 to 30 kilograms of seed a hectare.

The CSA model also helps increase the plant’s resistance, decreasing the use of pesticides and urea fertilizers.

Meanwhile, the rice productivity is up 6 quintals a hectare compared to traditional farming models. More importantly, the CSA model contributes to raising the locals’ awareness of environmental protection and to transforming their production thinking.

The CSA model is of the 3rd component under the Irrigated Agricultural Improvement Project (WB7).
