New Zealand, ADP and UNDP announced emergency support to storm- and flood-affected people in Central Vietnam.

On November 11, 2020, the Embassy of New Zealand announced an emergency assistance of NZD 170 thousand (equivalent to VND 2.7 billion) for the flood- and landslide-effected communities in Central Vietnam.

The assistance includes 150 thousand New Zealand dollars offered to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and 20 thousand dollars to the World Vision’s Emergency Relief Fund.

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Wendy Matthews also sent sincere condolences to the communities and families affected by floods and landslides.

Earlier, on November 9, the Asian Development Bank revealed an emergency and humanitarian relief of USD 2.5 million for flood-effected people in this region.

According to Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam Andrew Jeffries, it is a non-refundable aid.

ADB hopes to provide Vietnam with timely assistances to help those who have been severely affected by both natural disasters and Covid-19.

At the same time, he said that ADB appreciated the Vietnamese Government’s immediate response to emergency situations caused by natural disasters.

On November 6 and 7, Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) Resident Representative in Vietnam had a working visit to Quang Nam in order to help flood-effected people there.

She handed over 800 household kits, 30 tons of disinfectants, and 5 sets of equipment for storm and flood monitoring and assessment to people suffering from natural disasters.

At the same time, 300 houses damaged by storms and floods were helped to be repaired. It is reported that UNDP is expecting to leverage another 1 million dollars for emergency response and recovery efforts.

On November 4, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman said that the Government of the Netherlands supported 2 million euros for storm-effected victims in Central Vietnam.
