(QNO) - A VND-1.8-trillion programme of Ngoc Linh ginseng development will be carried out in Nam Tra My district in hope of preserving and developing the local products of/from Ngoc Linh ginseng.
The objectives of the programme are developing Ngoc Linh ginseng into a commodity branded as a national product with high economic values, stabilising and developing the local economy, planning and developing Nam Tra My into a stable raw material supply area, making Ngoc Linh ginseng a key commodity for economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty alleviation and bettering the lives of ethnic minorities in Nam Tra My district.
At the same time, the programme also helps to protect primary forests, watershed forests, and the Ngoc Linh nature reserve.
In particular, Quang Nam focuses on the preservation of the wild Ngoc Ling ginseng gene source in association with forest protection, biodiversity conservation, and owning an area of about 8.4 thousand hectares for Ngoc Linh ginseng by 2030.
All the ginseng has area code and geographical indications. It is expected to reach around 75 tons of ginseng per year which is meeting GACP and WHO standards.
In addition, Quang Nam will invest in building facilities for preliminary and deep processing of Ngoc Linh ginseng, centres for breeding, conservation and development this ginseng species via high-tech application in Nam Tra My.
Ngoc Linh ginseng will become an international branded commodity with high export value by 2045, improving the local income, and making Quang Nam a major ginseng export province.
According to Ho Quang Buu, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, Quang Nam wishes to make the forests in Nam Tra My district a capital of national ginseng.
The province will build a national centre for Ngoc Linh ginseng seed production in Nam Tra My, giving a priority to the development of Tak Ngo ginseng seed farm.
Besides the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng area, Quang Nam will build and upgrade the local infrastructure for tourism development in the ginseng region and for the local socioeconomic growth.
