(QNO) - The eastern and western regions are two driving force clusters for economic development combined with ecological and natural protection in Quang Nam. It is the basis for the province to achieve sustainable and green growth in the near future.
Eastern region: Industry and tourism
According to Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh, Quang Nam targets posting annual GRDP (gross regional domestic product) growth of over 8% in the 2021 - 2030 period, and average annual per capita GRDP is expected to reach over 7,500USD under its master plan in the 2021 - 2030 period and a vision to 2050.
In addition, Chu Lai airport will be upgraded into a 4F standard international airport (the highest in the aviation system), and Quang Nam seaport will be upgraded into a class I standard seaport to receive container ships carrying up to 50,000DWT.
Quang Nam’s estern region includes districts, towns, and cities in the coastal plain and midlands, with the key economic sectors being the marine economy, services, clean industry, tourism, and hi-tech agriculture.
Among them, Tam Ky is the urban center of administration, economics, education and training. Hoi An is a city of heritage, tourism, and international exchange with local unique cultural products.
Dien Ban is an urban area for the development of industry, science, and innovation. Nui Thanh is an industrial urban area and a logistics center.
Chu Lai will become a comprehensive and multi-sectoral economic zone, and the automobile mechanical industry will be a key sector.
Besides, Quang Nam will connect with Quang Ngai province for its economic development.
Western region: a driving force for green growth
The western region of Quang Nam province has the potential to develop a gardening and forest economy combined with tourism and biodiversity conservation towards sustainable carbon credit trading.
The western region includes mountainous districts or a natural forest ecosystem conservation area. It also aims to develop national forest products and medicinal raw materials, the gardening economy, farming, livestock economics, hydroelectric and mineral exploitation, and protect border areas.
In addition, Kham Duc - Phuoc Son and Thanh My - Nam Giang urban areas are transitional urban areas in order to connect Quang Nam province and Da Nang city with the Central Highlands and countries on the East - West economic corridor.
Under the master plan for Quang Nam province in the 2021 - 2030 period and a vision to 2050, Quang Nam will also protect the province's biodiversity corridor connecting Sao La species and habitat conservation areas, Song Thanh national park and Elephant species and habitat conservation area, expand the system of biodiversity conservation facilities, protect endemic, rare, and endangered genetic resources, genetic resources of indigenous plants and animals, and endemic, endangered, precious, and rare species with scientific, economic, and educational value.
In addition, the province should protect and develop areas of high biodiversity, specific ecosystems which have high biodiversity value and play a major role in environmental protection, tourism development, natural disaster prevention, and climate change adaptation; replicate the models and projects of effective conservation and development of valuable genetic resources; and effectively control invasive alien species.
