Decision on adjustment of the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone announced

(QNO) - A ceremony to announce the decision on the adjustment of the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (OEZ) was organized by the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee on December 16 in Chu Lai (Nui Thanh district). Present at the event were Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Viet Nam Umeda Kunio, other central and provincial leaders.

The Chu Lai OEZ covers an area of 27,040ha. It is the first coastal OEZ and a national key economic zone of Vietnam. Chu Lai OEZ includes industrial parks such as Tam Hiep, Tam Anh, Nothern Chu Lai, Tam Thang, tourism and urban areas, inportant traffic infrastructure.

Until now, the Chu Lai OEZ has attracted 58 projects with a total registered capital of VND94 trillion (USD4.5 billion). Truong Hai Auto Joint Stock Company (THACO) is the first and biggest private enterprise in Chu Lai OEZ with 30 factories, creating employment opportunities for 9,000 labourers.

According to Prime Minister Phuc, it is necessary to create more favourble conditions for businesses in Chu Lai OEZ such as encouragement of innovation and creation, improvement of business climate and national competitive ability, simplification of administrative procedures. Based on this adjustment, the Chu Lai OEZ will become a center of tourism, services, industry, logistics, agriculture, automobile, automobile supporting, textile and garment, gas and power, hi-tech application.

On this occasion, THACO also celebrated 15 years of its establishment (2003 - 2018). THACO now has 32 companies and factories, a mechanical complex, R&D center, a vocational training college, a logictics system with a total investment capital of more than VND80.5 trillion. It is a driving force of Quang Nam’s economy.

THACO is present  on the map of automobile production and assembly with international brands such as Kia - Korea; Mazda, Mishubishi fuso - Japan; Peugeot – France. It is also considered as the biggest and most modern automobile manufacturing factory in ASEAN. Since 2014, THACO has been leading the domestic automobile market, accounting for 38% of the market. THACO exports its spare parts and buses to the world.

In 2019, THACO’s agricultural material plants with capacity of over 200,000 tons / year will be put into operation.
